Training Methods and Tools
At Born to Be Dog Training LLC and Born to Be Dog Training Academy, we use only non-aggressive, force-free training methods based on the science of behavior and behavior change. These methods are endorsed by veterinarians, veterinary behaviorists, and respected organizations like the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, Fear Free Pets, and certified positive dog trainers. We do not permit the use of aversive tools, including but not limited to choke, prong, shock or bark collars, or electric fences. We also do not support the use of dominance-based training techniques, such as knee jabs, scruff shakes, side kicks, alpha rolls, spray bottles or any other forceful, painful or aggressive training methods. Shock devices and other forms of aversive ‘training’ tools are never recommended and those using them are encourage to discontinue their use before effective behavior change and modification can take place.
Commitment to Positive Training
If you feel the need to use or continue using aversive tools or methods, we are not the right fit for your training needs. Any trainer affiliated with Born to Be Dog Training LLC or Born to Be Dog Training Academy reserves the right to terminate the training relationship or withdraw as your trainer if these methods are used. Client/Owner understands that if aversive training devices or techniques are used during our contracted working relationship, no further sessions will be scheduled, all training with Born to Be Dog Training LLC and its affiliated trainers will cease immediately, and no refunds will be issued.
Client Responsibility
Training success depends on the time and effort you dedicate to working with your dog. While Born to Be Dog Training LLC and it's affiliated trainers can coach, teach, and advise, they cannot do the training for you. The progress and success you achieve will directly reflect the effort, consistency, and commitment you put into training. Remember, training is a lifelong process—continued practice is essential to maintain your dog’s progress. Without ongoing practice, behaviors may regress. Safety and setting up success for both you and your dog is of upmost importance. Please follow common sense and recommended guidelines.
GENERAL CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES: You are responsible for the following:
Ensuring that your dog is in good health and free from any contagious diseases or conditions.
Providing proof of current vaccinations and deworming, as required by law, prior to the start of training when requested.
Complying with all applicable leash laws and ordinances when on walks or in public areas.
Providing and maintaining your own equipment, including but not limited too, a secure collar and leash for your dog during training sessions.
Arriving on time for scheduled training sessions and providing appropriate cancellation notice
Scheduling and/or requesting to reschedule sessions via Company's calendar with provided links from Company.
Participating in training sessions as directed by the Company's trainer and following through with any recommended training exercises or techniques.
Pay all session costs and applicable fees as outlined for the services you choose.
AVERSIVE TRAINING TOOLS & TECHNIQUES. You agree to use only tools, techniques, and equipment that are safe and humane for your dog. You agree not to use any aversive training tools or methods during the training of your dog. Such tools and methods include but are not limited to:
Choke chains
Prong collars
Shock collars
Invisible fences
Corrections
Physical punishment (hitting, kicking, swatting)
The use of any of these tools or methods is strictly prohibited when contracted with the Company. You understand that the use of aversive training tools or methods may cause physical and emotional harm to your dog, and may even be illegal in certain circumstances. They can also interfere with progress. If you are found to be using any aversive training tools or methods during the training of your dog, the Company has the right to terminate the training services immediately without refund. The Company is committed to using only positive reinforcement and humane training methods, and you agree to abide by this commitment throughout the duration of retaining Company services.
CLIENT TOOLS & EQUIPMENT. You are responsible for supplying all necessary tools and equipment for your dog's training, including but not limited to leashes, collars, and training treats. Born to Be Dog Training will not be responsible for providing any such tools or equipment; however, in some cases, Born to Be Dog Training may lend you our company equipment, tools, or treats for the duration of the training session at our discretion. All Company equipment and tools must be returned to Born to Be Dog Training unless otherwise agreed upon by Company. The Company may recommend certain tools or equipment for you to use during training, but it is ultimately your responsibility to obtain and maintain these items, and to follow all instructions provided by Born to Be Dog Training regarding the use of such tools and equipment.
Cancellation, Rescheduling & Refund Policy
NO-REFUND POLICY. Once payment has been made for dog training services, it is considered final and non-refundable. If you need to cancel, any payments already made may be applied as a credit toward future services, in line with our cancellation policy. Because of the nature of our services, we generally cannot offer refunds; however, in certain limited situations, the Company may make exceptions as outlined in this Agreement.
CANCELLATION & RESCHEDULING: Coaching and training sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations and rescheduling requests made less than 24 hours before the session will count as a completed session. Sessions cancelled or rescheduled more than 24 hours in advance can be moved to a new time without affecting your package.
Expiration Policy
All Packages expire 6 months from original payment date. There are no refunds on expired Packages. Once your Package is expired, you will need to purchase a new Package. As such, when purchasing, please make sure you can make a reliable commitment to regular training sessions. While we’ll do our best to check in and help with scheduling when needed, it’s ultimately your responsibility to make sure your sessions are booked within the agreed timeframe so you can get the most out of your training.
If extenuating circumstances prevent you from using your sessions within the designated timeframe, please reach out to us at borntobedogtraining@gmail.com. While we cannot guarantee extensions, we’re happy to review situations on a case-by-case basis and may offer flexibility at our sole discretion.
Liability and Safety
Due to the unpredictable nature of dogs and dog training, the customer agrees not to hold Born to Be Dog Training LLC, Born to Be Dog Training Academy, and any affiliated trainers liable, and further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless those parties, for any loss, damage, or injuries caused by the dog’s actions, whether during or outside of training sessions. Customer also releases and holds harmless Born to Be Dog Training LLC and any affiliated trainers from any liability for damages or injuries the Customer or its dog(s) sustain before, during, and after training sessions. Born to Be Dog Training LLC makes no warranty, express or implied, that its dog training services, and academy/coaching services will improve an individual dog’s behavior.
Supervision & Dog Safety
Client/Owner agrees to take full responsibility for your dog’s behavior and the safety of your dog and others, particularly around children or other animals. Client/Owner agrees to use training and management to prevent the dog(s) from biting or attacking any person (adult or child) or other animals. Client/Owner understands that NO DOG should ever be left alone with a child, and full, awake adult supervision is required at all times whenever children and dogs are together. Once a dog has bitten or shown aggression, it must always be supervised. Client/Owner understands that no dog can be 100% cured of aggression.
Intake Form & Liability/Service Waiver
The intake form and signed liability waiver must be completed in full and submitted prior to your scheduled session. Dog training services will not be provided without the signed liability release/service waiver. If the form is not submitted within 48 hours of your scheduled session, Born to Be Dog Training LLC reserves the right to cancel with no refund or reschedule your session for a time after these forms have been submitted.
The signed Service Contract and Intake Form remain valid for the duration of your training relationship with Born to Be Dog Training. These terms apply to your current session or package as well as any future sessions, packages, renewals, or services, unless otherwise specified in writing. One Service Contract covers all dogs in your household, even if the Intake Form details only one specific dog or if you submit multiple Intake Forms for several animals. Submission is required only once and remains in effect for the entirety of our professional relationship.
